Illiana Motor Speedway:

SCHERERVILLE | Missing last week's racing because of knee surgery, Dyer's Dave Weltmeyer got back to his winning ways by capturing the 25-lap late model stock car feature race at Illiana Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Absent from victory lane since his last win on June 17 at the local half-mile oval, Weltmeyer and his Monte Carlo held of the challenges of Mike White to score his fifth main event win of the season.

Looking for his third straight victory, White finished 0.055-seconds behind Weltmeyer at the checkered flag. Joe O'Connor, John Nutley and Len Nowosel rounded out the top five.

"Our car was good, but it was tight. It wouldn't turn," Weltmeyer said. "Mike (White) was coming and I was keeping an eye on him. Early, when it was raining, I was a little tentative. When the track got dry, I got a little confidence in the car. We still have some work to do on the car to get it just right."

Staying on top of the division point standings, Jack Kalwasinski of Dyer made off with top honors in the 25-lap limited late model headliner. Taking the lead on lap three, Kalwasinski bested fellow Dyer resident Phil Splant and Andy Marchiniak.

"Between the light rain shower and the last restart (after a caution period), the car was a little loose," Kalwasinski said. "(Splant) was driving the wheels off of it and so was I. Luckily, we were able to hold on."

Shawn Wiltjer of Calumet Township picked up his first career feature win at the speedway, claiming the victory in the 25-lap Mid American sportsman main event. Wiltjer defeated Cedar Lake's Bill Neering and John Marshall of Crown Point.

Racing on the speedway's quarter-mile oval saw last year's division titlist, Bill Serviss of Posen, Ill., win the 25-lap Turbo Stox feature. Chris Woodall and Ed Ligue chased Serviss to the finish line. For the second time this year, Mike Jucius of Oak Lawn, Ill. was the winner of the 12-lap Pure Stock main.
