Illiana Motor Speedway:

A couple Dyer drivers, Dave Weltmeyer and Jack Kalwasinski, enjoyed a successful night of stock car racing at Illiana Motor Speedway on Saturday.

The veteran Weltmeyer posted his fourth feature win of the season in late model stock car competition at the local half-mile paved oval, wheeling his Monte Carlo to victory in the division's 25-lap headliner.

After starting on the front row, Weltmeyer, Illiana's 2003 track champion, led from green flag to checkered flag to score the win ahead of rookie competitor, Jeff Cannon of Kouts. Defending late model titlist Pat Kelly finished third, followed by Mike White and John Nutley.

"I picked it up (the pace) a little when I saw Cannon," Weltmeyer said. "He was coming and bringing some other fast guys with him, so we had to get the car running a little bit better."

Commenting on next week's Champion Racing Association Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100, Weltmeyer said, "I would love to win that thing. I've got second about three times. Illiana will be well represented in the race."

"That guy (Weltmeyer) is tough isn't he," Cannon said. "That's all we had. The car was better two weeks ago. I think the temperature played a part tonight."

Kalwasinski in a Ford Fusion notched his third feature victory of the season, winning the 25-lap limited late model main event. Coming from his ninth starting spot in a 21-car field, Kalwasinski made a three-wide pass on Andy Marchiniak on lap 22 to grab the lead and score the win over Rich Dawson, Anthony Danta and Marchiniak.

"I wanted to win that one for (car owner) Nick (Trgovich)," Kalwasinski said. "He's not here tonight. He just had a pacemaker put in and he's at home. It's a special win."

Bill Neering of Cedar Lake picked up his second win of the campaign as he captured the 25-lap Mid American sportsman division feature race. Neering guided his Monte Carlo to the win after taking the lead on lap 12. Finishing behind Neering were John Marshall of Crown Point and John Senerchia.

Tommy Prim of Thornton continued his mastering of Turbo Stock feature action, claiming his fifth win of the season and his fourth straight feature win. Prim and his well-worn Monte Carlo bested Valparaiso's Ryan Moore and Eddie Ligue in the competition on the speedway's quarter-mile paved track. Helen Nester was the winner of the 12-lap Pure Stock feature also held on the quarter-mile.
