Illiana Motor Speedway:

LOCAL AUTO RACING | Bringing his winning average up to .500, Dyer's Dave Weltmeyer sped to another late model stock car feature race win at Illiana Motor Speedway on Saturday night, capturing the 25-lap division headliner.

Victorious in three of the six main events held so far this year at the Schererville half-mile paved oval, Weltmeyer piloted his Monte Carlo to the checkered flag over three-time Illiana champion, Mike White, who has finished in the runner-up spot for the third time this season.

John Nutley, early pacesetter Brian Muick of Chesterton and fastest qualifier Jeff Cannon of Kouts rounded out the top five finishers. Weltmeyer, the speedway's 2003 late model champ, raced past Muick on lap 10 and finished the contest with a 0.147-second margin over White.

"The car went good and, of course, Joe Rhyne's motor got me down the straightaway," Weltmeyer said. "We were a little bound up in the corners and the car wouldn't turn too good. We were a little tight.

"We're back on track. Last year, there was a gap between wins. When the heat came in the track, the car wasn't set up properly. It seemed like (last year), we ran better when the track was cool. I think we've got the car set up a little better and we'll win some races."

Rich Dawson of Steger garnered top honors in the 25-lap limited late model division main event. He took the checkered flag for his second win of 2006 with a hefty 2.592-second margin over Dyer's Jack Kalwasinski.

Bill Neering of Cedar Lake came home third, followed by last week's feature winner, Andy Marchiniak.

Sean Matthuis posted his second win of the campaign in Mid American sportsman feature action. The 16-year-old Mokena driver, in his second year of driving stock cars, took the lead from Bill Neering on lap 17 of the 25-lap run.

Last week's division winner, Kevin Moenck, finished second, followed by Neering.

Tommy Prim of Thornton guided his Monte Carlo to a win in the 25-lap Turbo Stox feature race on the speedway's quarter-mile oval. Prim took the lead from Tony Neering on lap 17 and grabbed the checkered flag over Neering, Bill Serviss and Dave Dotter.

With over 50 cars in the pit area for Pure Stock division racing, Dave Jacobs raced to his first win of the year, winning the class' 12-lap main event over Mike Jucius and Chris Sandberg, who was last week's feature winner.

Allen wins at Shadyhill Speedway: Nick Allen was a first time winner in United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) open-wheel modified competition, besting Brad DeYoung and Bub Patrick in the 20-lap feature at the Medaryville dirt oval.

Dyer's Bobby Brooks kept his perfect feature win streak intact, by capturing his fifth consecutive main event for the track's barefoot mini (stock) division.
