Illiana Motor Speedway:
Veteran Dave Weltmeyer is 2-for-2 this year in late model stock car feature races at Illiana Motor Speedway after winning Saturday night.
Taking the lead on lap 21 from early pacesetter Bobby Gash, Weltmeyer and his Monte Carlo stayed a few car lengths ahead of fastest qualifier Pat Kelly to score the win in the 30-lap chase.
"Racing tonight was a little bit of patience," Weltmeyer said. "I thought the outside (lane) was going to move and then I thought I better stay where I am (in the bottom groove). They were racing there side-by-side for a while. We got through and little by little we caught Bobby Gash."
Newcomer Rich Dawson captured the 25-lap feature race for limited late models. A former go-kart racer, Dawson defeated John LaFreniere. Cedar Lake's Bill Neering stayed ahead of last year's track titlist Josh Nelms to win the 25-lap Mid American sportsman headliner.
On the speedway's smaller quarter-mile oval, Tommy Prim took home top honors in the 25-lap Turbo Stox main event, while Joel Kozolowski was the winner of the 12-lap feature for Pure Stock drivers.
